The Iceco has been using approx .8 amps an hour until the last 12 hour period, this morning I went out and read the numbers and they had dropped to 183! The BMS claims I used 46 amp hrs over that period. Obviously, I did not use any more amps than previously but the Overkill somehow

Main metric I use to prove the quality of this unit is the lack of voltage drop across BMS when checking total battery voltage. The daly bms read 9.6v for a 4 cell 12v DIY battery which is >13v when bypassing the daly bms. Overkill showed no loss at all. Bluetooth works great. Haven''t tried usb PC connection yet.

Yes, the BMS has a built-in balancing function. HOWEVER no, it is not capable of doing an initial balance on new cells.. The balancer works by connecting a tiny bleed resistor to the cells with the highest voltage, and the excess energy in those cells turns into waste heat. This is a slow process. Overkill solar: Found the BMSes I bought from them for 1/2 the $130 elsewhere. Those BMSes (24V 8S BMS) do only the BSMing well. Their advertised balancing is pathetic taking probably a year or more to balance a battery with ~180Ahr cells.

The BMS bleed dump current balancing default setting is 3.4v which is minimum cell voltage before BMS balancing bleed dump current begins. You can lower this value to start balancing earlier in charge cycle but at a lower setting it may bleed current during non-charging periods.

Once the Overkill BMS is back in stock I will be purchasing. I know Bluetooth is included which is handy but I want an LCD display so others can read the battery parameters. The Overkill manual this can be done using a 20 x 4 LCD using Arduino. Overkill even has a Library to assist in the programing.
