Armenia and European Union Armenia''s energy relations with the EU are in the first turn supported through the Eastern Partnership (EaP) framework - a joint initiative of the EU and its Eastern European partners: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine (launched in 2009 at the EU Prague Summit).
An important milestone for Armenia was joining the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) agreement in March, 2016. The agreement signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with a contribution of €10 million to E5P, will enable Armenia to access grant funds of €20 million.

The reason for this is that average solar radiation in Armenia is almost 1700 kWh/m 2 annually. One of the well-known utilization examples is the American University of Armenia (AUA) which uses it not only for electricity generation, but also for water heating. The Government of Armenia is promoting utilization of solar energy.
According to the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia, Armenia has an average of about 1720 kilowatt hour (kWh) solar energy flow per square meter of horizontal surface annually and has a potential of 1000 MW power production.
