PORT OF SPAIN, December 12, 2022 – Lightsource BP, Shell and BP have received government approval for Trinidad and Tobago’s first large-scale solar project, Lightsource BP announced on Friday. The 148-MWp project is held 50-50 by Shell and BP, who have reached an FID and plan to begin development in early 2023.
The Trinidadian government initiated a call for green energy projects as part of its Paris Agreement commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from power generation by 15% by 2030. BP Trinidad and Tobago president David Campbell commented on the project’s significance in advancing the country’s renewables industry.
